Behavioral Health Services
Resolving mental and emotional health challenges requires special care. At Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Unit, we focus on helping individuals achieve optimal mental health in a professional, caring environment. The behavioral health team provides care for a wide range of mental health and emotional challenges.
The multidisciplinary team resources include:
- Psychiatrists
- Nurses
- Social workers
- Occupational therapists (consultative services may be provided)
- Chaplains (available upon request)
We provide short-term inpatient stabilization for acute psychiatric patients, ages 18 and older. The 40-bed unit features private and semi-private rooms and is designed to meet patients' medical and mental health needs. Patients may be accepted voluntarily or involuntarily with a court order. Adult inpatient psychiatric treatment includes crisis stabilization, psychiatric and medical evaluation (or assessment), and therapeutic care 24 hours a day in our newly renovated facility.
Diagnoses the team treats include, but are not limited to the following:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Schizophrenia
- Schizoaffective disorder
- Bipolar disorder
- PTSD
Admission Criteria:
- A primary psychiatric diagnosis and impaired functioning which may be exhibited by the following:
- Active suicidal or homicidal thoughts or actions
- Bizarre, changed or unsafe behavior
- Insomnia or mania
- Depression, poor self-care or isolation
Individuals receive a thorough evaluation by a psychiatrist to determine the best course of treatment. Behavioral health professionals provide resources to patients and their families with educational and emotional support, as well as continuing care services to help ease the transition into daily living.
