Extraordinary Nurse Recognized at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center
11/20/2023
POPLAR BLUFF, MO – Zane Foust, R.N., of Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
The nomination submitted read, “Zane went above and beyond his normal nursing duties. When he came into my room to provide nursing care, he took the time to talk with me about hunting and fishing; asking me to share stories about my hunting and fishing trips when I was younger. This interest in my personal life, took my mind off my illness and was the bright spot(s) in my day. Zane also was so patient, kind and friendly to my family when they came to sit with me, always being sure to ask if they needed anything. Zane even contacted my son on his day off to check and see how I was doing. I've never had a nurse give such personal attention at any hospital that I've been in, and I'm 91 years old!”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
“It was an honor to present Zane with the Daisy award. Zane's nomination stood out because he was compassionate, empathetic and made a connection with the patient and his family. The experience he was able to provide had a lasting impact,” said Assistant CNO Adam Harrison.
