Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center Joins the Pink Glove Dance Video Competition
8/23/2016
Dancers join thousands of nurses, communities and survivors nationwide to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer
Poplar Bluff, MO - August 24, 2016 – Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center will be competing in the 2016 Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition with the goals of winning a $15,000 donation for the United Cancer Assistance Network (UCAN) and gaining social media attention to promote breast cancer awareness. The video will feature participants from throughout the community wearing pink-colored exam gloves to celebrate hope for a cure through the joy of dancing and honor all those affected by the disease. As part of the competition, PBRMC had to make a donation of at least $2,000 to UCAN, which they do each spring through sponsorship of the annual UCAN Walk.
“Creating this video for the Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition has been a labor of love for all of us and we are so excited to participate and compete with our colleagues nationwide,” said Melissa Samuelson, Chief Nursing Executive at PBRMC.
All videos will be posted on www.pinkglovedance.com beginning Sept. 12 where the public can go online to vote for their favorite video until Sept. 23. The winners will be announced Sept. 30, with the grand prize winning team receiving a $15,000 donation in their name to the breast cancer charity of their choice.
Last year, the winning Pink Glove Dance video was submitted by Infirmary Health in Mobile, Alabama. The facility received more than 65,000 votes to win the top prize. The organizers at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center have set a goal of 75,000 votes to secure the top prize this year. “We realize that reaching this goal will require our entire community to come together, share the video on social media, and vote on a daily basis.” said Melody Melloy, Executive Director of UCAN. “Everyone at UCAN feels so privileged to receive a great deal of community support and with everyone’s help we know that PBRMC’s Pink Glove Dance video can win the top prize for 2016.”
History of Medline’s Pink Glove Dance
Back in 2009, Medline Industries, Inc. turned everyday exam gloves from blue to pink to help create a comfortable, friendly and open dialogue about breast cancer between nurses and patients. This same year, Medline created the original Pink Glove Dance video with hospital workers at a Portland, Ore. hospital. A few years later, Medline launched the Pink Glove Dance video competition, which has brought together 250,000 healthcare professionals, patients, survivors and communities to celebrate hope for a cure and honor all who have been affected by the disease – all through the joy of dancing. The Medline Pink Glove Dance video competition has inspired 650 dance videos and raised more than $1.2 million for breast cancer charities nationwide. In addition, Medline has donated $1.7 million to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) in support of its mission to save lives through early detection and offering free mammograms for women in need.
