4/19/2024
POPLAR BLUFF, MO – Michele Cagle, a registered nurse at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for 12 years, has received a national 2023 Nursing Excellence Award.
Cagle is one of ten national winners selected across all hospitals affiliated with Community Health Systems, one of the leading operators of general acute-care hospitals and outpatient care centers in communities across the United States. The organization’s affiliates include PBRMC and 71 other hospitals in 15 states.
“Michele is the fiercest patient advocate I have ever seen in action,” Ashley Lepold, director of surgical services said. “Michele is known and loved by all of our regular patients, if one of our regular patients miss a scheduled infusion appointment, Michele is on the phone figuring out where they are and assuring they are safe.”
Michele is a veteran nurse that “strives to mentor new nurses, instills in them the need for teamwork and dedication to the care of all the patients they come into contact with,” Lepold added. “She is the type of nurse every nurse needs in their corner cheering them on.”
“I am proud to see Michele Cagle recognized for her commitment to outstanding patient care and dedication to nursing excellence. Her achievement reflects the impactful contributions nurses make in our healthcare community, inspiring us all to strive for excellence in our practice,” Carla Rider, chief nursing officer, said.
The Nursing Excellence Award was created to honor the critical role nurses have played in treating patients to help them get well and live healthier lives. The peer-nominated award program was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence. These characteristics include outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation, and reflect the efforts of someone who is a demonstrated team player and/or mentor to others, is a leader in times of crises, and who regularly promotes health in the community.
“I have never won an award before and to win this award for not only my job, but my passion is a true honor,” Cagle said.
Cagle joined PBRMC in 2012 and in that time has spent 5 years working in the women’s center and the last 7 in same day surgery.
In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Cagle received a cash award and a gift box to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
